The Process of Commissioning an Oil Painting with Viktor Butko

1.
The client has an idea of a commision, contacts the artist providing as much info as possible about what they are interested in commissioning.

For example:
-What is the subject matter?
-Are you interested in having the painting done from life, if so where are you located and is there a specific season you are interested in being portrayed? Or do you have a photo reference that is very specific and you would like it to be portrayed?
-What size are you interested in? Is there a specific spot this is going to hang in your home? Does it need to be measured? Don’t forget to leave room for a frame!
-Is there a specific deadline you need this by?
-Is there any other info that would be helpful for the artist to know about what you are looking for.
-How did you find out about Viktor?

2.
After Viktor receives this info, he and the client will set up a meeting by phone, video call or in person to go over the details and process. An estimated outline of pricing and the timeline will be discussed. Each commission will receive a custom quote depending on the size, complexity, and other requirements for the painting. This will be provided after all info is reviewed.

3.
The artist will draw up a contract based on the discussion with final info about costs and timeline and a sketch. A 50 % non-refundable deposit is standard with commissions and will be required.

Why Commision a Butko?

Viktor is a professional oil painter with over 20 years of experience painting local and distant scenes, he’s spent much of his life traveling and experiencing new locations. His ability to capture the quality and atmosphere of a place without drowning the subject in unnecessary details is one of his charms as a painter. He excels at portraying both- a strong likeness of the subject as well as the spirit of the place.

Viktor’s oil paintings are done on oil primed Belgian linen with professional quality paints. The commissions do not come with frames but he is happy, for an additional charge, to frame the painting or give an opinion on what will work best (which is free:).
Once the commission is finished and dried, shipping and handling with insurance via Fedex or UPS is available at an additional cost.
